Kaz Take-off Redux

Greetings from Kazakhstan!!

Okay, I lied. We are still in Cincinnati...couldn't make it out yesterday after 7 hours at the airport yesterday (including 2 on the runway). Weather in Chicago.

So... we'll try again today! On basically the same itinerary, just 24 hours later (today, we know what the guy in "Groundhog Day" must have felt like!)

Here are 2 pix - our 'first run farewell' at the airport yesterday, and another that's admittedly only meaningful to me: FINALLY crossing off the last item on my to do list, which has been the bane of my existence for the past month or so.
As soon as I finish typing this, I'll cross my fingers that our flights go better today.

  1. I am so tired of that excuse from the airlines. Call me crazy but isn't there always wather in Chicago?! You would think they have figured that out by now. Hopefully your second attempt was much less eventful and the flight went smoothly. Expect you to come back fluent in Russian! --Steph

  2. I thought of you all weekend! I'm sending you good vibes and hope that all goes well from now on. I'm so excited to hear all about your adventure. I hope things don't drive you to sample the Russian Vodka!!!

  5. Hi Alison and Russ!
What a crazy thing to happen! I can't imagine getting all psyched up for the trip then to sit on the runway and end up going home. AAGH! But now you are there and its Tuesday evening and you have met with Gulbanu - did she look at "Gumi's" picture? Did you meet Janara? Who was your Almaty driver? Did you see the mountains? And all the trees on the roadside with the white stuff painted on the trunks? I hope your jet lag disappears quickly but I am sure you will be wide awake when you meet your new daughter! Mark and I are thinking of you often, calculating the Kaz time difference and trying to guess what you are doing - we obviously don't have anything else to do....
