Visitation Day 8 - Speech Lessons

Another nice day in Karaganda!

The highlight of our day today was observing Lera's "speech therapy" appointment. She and a little boy, Sasha, sat at a tiny little table and were so good and cute, it was fun to see. They did little activities like blowing, clicking their tongues, making animal noises, and stacking colored blocks (what that has to do with speech therapy, we haven't a clue). At first, we were a little alarmed that Sasha could do everything faster and better than Lera...until we learned that he is 3-1/2!

This afternoon, we gave Lera a new toy that she loved... a stroller for her doll. She walked it around the baby house several times...until she laid eyes, for the first time, on her friend Sylvia in a real stroller. At that, she grabbed her doll, hurled it down on the ground and tried to climb into the play stroller. Wish we could have caught that on film, because it cracked us up.

We did give her a ride in the real stroller, which she also loved... the "Lera Machina" as Russ calls it.

  2. Lera's all bundled up and Russ has no coat! What do the local adults do? Is it a warm day or cold day for them?

  3. Couldn't tell from the Russ & stroller picture but I am hoping Dad didn't run her up to top speed before he gave her a big push.

  4. Hey y'all! I'm finally caught up on all your blogs since you've been there (we had no electricity/computer for a few days due to storms!) Lera is just adorable and her hair is beautiful. It has actually grown a lot from day 1 pics to now! I am so excited for you guys and LOVE all the pictures and funny stories. Your appreciation of skype (sp?) is shared by a neighbor of mine. Her hubbie has to tvl to Israel for business often and skype is just a life-saver for their whole family. Bless Grandpa and Grandma Lang, Auntie Poomela (what?), and all the other great people manning the homefront and kids.
